Matsushima is considered one of the top three views in the whole of Japan, and with it only being forty minutes away from Sendai on the train, we made an early start and wandered over. Upon arrival, just outside the station, we came across the towns information booth where we met a friendly lady who told us all the ins and outs of the town, what there was to see and do and recommended, that if we were hungry, to head over to the towns Fish Market where they were getting into full swing of it being Oyster season.
From the station we booked a boat trip around the islands that scattered the bay which gave us about an hour to have a potter about and grab some food prior to boarding so we went to the fish market where I enjoyed an ice cream and watched people eat oyster burgers which I just couldn't bring myself to eat unfortunately. We also had a look at a small shrine by the bay. After that it was to the docks for an hour long boat ride round the bay which with the fresh sea air brought the temperature down a bit which was welcome. The views around the bay and the islands was amazing, each island had a different shape with some inhabited and some not.
Once we'd finished the boat tour around the bay, we spent a little time wandering around the local sights including the zen garden and monuments at the rear of the town.
